How Our Production Finishing Services Work

Every part that comes off our SLA, SLS, FDM, Color PolyJet, CFF, and MJF systems can move directly into our in-house finishing department. We evaluate your part's geometry, material, and end-use requirements, then build a finishing workflow that scales from a single presentation model to thousands of production units — without ever leaving our Cypress facility.

STEP 1

Material & Finish Consultation

We review your part's print technology, intended use case, and visual requirements to recommend the right finishing process or combination of processes.

STEP 2

Surface Preparation

Parts are cleaned, media blasted, or pre-treated as needed to create a uniform surface ready for smoothing, dyeing, coating, or paint.

STEP 3

Finishing & CMF Application

Vapor smoothing, deep dye, PPG-certified coatings, metallic plating, soft-touch, or hand-finishing is applied using our DyeMansion Powerfuse S and DM60 systems and supporting equipment.

STEP 4

Quality Inspection & Color Verification

Every finished part is inspected against your color and surface specification under our ISO 9001:2015 quality management system before shipping.

Production Finishing Service Categories

Our 3D printing services finishing menu is organized into two groups: industrial and functional finishes built for performance, and aesthetic, high-fidelity finishes built for presentation, branding, and collectibles.

Industrial & Functional Finishes

Vapor Smoothing

Our DyeMansion Powerfuse S vapor smoothing process chemically melts the outer surface of MJF and SLS parts to produce an airtight, isotropic surface with an injection-molded look and feel. The result is a semi-gloss, waterproof finish that's ideal for fluid-handling components, drone housings, and durable enclosures that need to seal threads or resist moisture ingress.

Deep-Dye Coloring

Using our DyeMansion DM60 system, color is driven deep into the porous surface of SLS and MJF parts — not just applied on top. This produces vibrant, permanent color that won't chip, scratch off, or fade under heavy handling, making it the standard finish for production runs of PA12 and TPU parts where paint durability is a concern.

PPG-Certified Coatings

For parts that need to perform in demanding environments, we apply PPG-certified industrial coatings that meet automotive-grade standards for chemical resistance, UV stability, and abrasion resistance. These coatings are well suited for outdoor enclosures, automotive components, and high-wear functional parts.

EMI/RFI Shielding & Metallic Coatings

We apply conductive metallic coatings to printed parts to provide electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference shielding for electronic enclosures, sensor housings, and high-performance drone components — protecting sensitive electronics without the weight or lead time of machined metal housings.

Aesthetic & High-Fidelity Finishes

Precision Color Matching

Our finishing team develops custom color formulations matched to Pantone, RAL, or brand-specific standards, ensuring every part — and every part of a multi-piece assembly — comes back exactly on spec, run after run.

Custom Textures

From fine grip patterns to branded surface textures, we apply custom texturing to add functional grip, visual realism, or recognizable brand details directly into the finished surface of a part.

Artisan Detailing

For collectibles, display models, and luxury fashion prototypes, our team provides professional airbrushing, hand painting, weathering, and soft-touch coating application — the kind of fine-art level detail work that high-end clients expect.

Media Blasting

Media blasting creates a uniform matte surface across FDM, SLA, and large MJF parts, effectively eliminating visible layer lines and print artifacts as either a finished look or a prep step for paint, dye, or coating.

3D Printing Finish & CMF Comparison Guide

Not sure which finishing process is right for your part? This guide compares our most-requested production finishing services by application and end result.

Finish Process Best For Visual / Tactile Result
Vapor Smoothing MJF, SLS, drone parts Semi-gloss, waterproof, and ultra-smooth — an injection-molded feel.
Deep Dyeing Production PA12 & TPU Matte, deeply saturated color that won't chip or peel under heavy use.
Cerakote / PPG Coatings End-use industrial parts & UAVs High-durability, chemical-resistant, and UV-stable with custom colors.
Soft-Touch Coating Consumer tech & fashion Luxury "velvet" feel with a premium, non-slip grip.
Hand Painting Intricate models & collectibles Bespoke detailing, weathered effects, and fine-art level realism.
Media Blasting FDM, SLA, & large MJF Uniform matte surface that hides layer lines and print artifacts.
Metal Plating Tooling & high-end decor Real metallic finish (chrome, gold, nickel); adds weight and conductivity.
Color Matching Corporate branding Precise Pantone/RAL accuracy across multi-part assemblies.

Finishing Compatibility Across Print Technologies

Our finishing workflows are optimized for the specific materials and surface characteristics produced by each in-house 3D printing technology.

SLS / MJF

PA12, PA11, TPU 1301

Best suited for deep dyeing, vapor smoothing, and EMI/RFI shielding. Ideal for production parts requiring durability and consistent color.

SLA

High-Performance Resins

Excellent candidate for hand painting, soft-touch coatings, color matching, and artisan detailing on high-fidelity mockups and collectibles.

FDM

Engineering Thermoplastics

Media blasting and PPG-certified coatings remove layer lines and add durable, end-use surface protection for functional parts.

Color PolyJet

Full-Color Models

Soft-touch and protective clear coatings preserve full-color detail while improving handling durability for presentation models.

CFF

Carbon Fiber Reinforced Parts

Media blasting and PPG-certified coatings provide a clean, production-ready surface on structural and tooling components.

Metal Plating & Shielding

Chrome, Gold, Nickel, Conductive

Applied across compatible SLA, SLS, and MJF parts for decorative metallic finishes or functional EMI/RFI shielding.
